AERIAL BOMBINGS STARTED – FIGHT THE MEDIA FIRST

The Opinionated television channels have started the season of opinion polls. Is there not any accountability for these opinion polls? One may not be able to dispute with authority the projections and predictions but if one looks at the glaring mistakes in their factual data of 2004 election then the projections and predictions have to be taken with a pinch of salt. If we look at the Table we can find that the Percentage of vote is stated as 36.5 for UPA and 35.9 for NDA.
Now if we look at the percentages of the parties from the Election Commission web-site the percentage of votes for 2004 election were 34.8 and 31.09 respectively.
If the actual percentage of 2004 is reckoned for calculating the swing then the projected NDA vote would be lower by 1.1% only. Since this poll has not included INLD, RLD and AGP in the NDA the whole exercise seems to be rigged. There are other glaring mistakes in the poll such as stating that BJP would get 6% of votes in Tamil Nadu and 9% of Votes in Andhra Pradesh. While the latter may be possible, the former (remember BJP is all alone in this election at least as of now), even a die-hard BJP supporter would laugh at. I hope L. Ganesan does not take it seriously and waste resources chasing mirages. The other great howler which the channel has continuously been doing is the percentage they give for Congress in UP – a whopping 17% .
The poll is neither credible not compreshensive because there is no data regarding Rajasthan, MP, Chattisgarh, Jarkhand,Delhi, Haryana, North Eastern States etc., aggregating to about 150 seats. Looking at all these one feels this poll is the re-hashing, re-presenting of the data of 2004 in such a way that it would facilitate the all-important tie-ups for Congress such as SP + Congress and JD(S) + Congress.
